The Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO (TLNCU), working together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry through the Secretariat of State for Forestry, held a meeting to establish the National Committee for Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Timor-Leste.

Based on the meeting with all entities held last year on December 16, 2019, and the workshop on August 9, 2024, it was agreed to establish the National Committee on Man and the Biosphere in Timor-Leste. Through consensus, the structure and committee members decided to formalize the committee on 27/05/2025, and the committee is constituted directly by the Government of Timor-Leste through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry, especially the Secretariat of State for Forestry.
The MAB Committee will monitor and manage the implementation of the UNESCO MAB program in Timor-Leste. The MAB program is an intergovernmental science program that promotes an agenda of interdisciplinary research and training.
In this meeting activity, His Excellency the Secretary of State for Forestry said this meeting was to elaborate the structure of the national MAB committee to work hard to complete the documents to meet the requirements. The committee has prepared documents to reach 95% to submit documents to the registration of Parke Nasionál Nino Konis Santana at the UNESCO international level. Parke Nasionál Nino Konis Santana is recognized in the international world.
Activity established the MAB Committee in signing the Declaration of Understanding working agreement between ministerial lines, international agencies, and local NGOs. Represents the following entities, such as the Directorate General of Forestry, Directorate General of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management, Directorate General of Higher Education and Science, Directorate General of Tourism, Directorate General of Environment, Directorate General of Arts and Culture, Directorate General of Housing and Urban Development, Directorate General of Government and Local Government, Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO, National Institute of Science and Technology – INCT, University of East Timor – UNITAL, Perma-Kultura Timor-Leste, Haburas, UNESCO Antenna Office, and United Nation Development Program – UNDP.
