
Lautem, 2 July 2026 – The National Commission Timor-Leste for UNESCO organized a seminar to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and safeguarding documentary heritage as a vital part of the nation’s identity, history, and collective memory.
The UNESCO Memory of the World Programme provides countries with the opportunity to identify, preserve, and register documentary heritage of outstanding historical, cultural, and universal significance, ensuring its protection and accessibility for future generations.
The seminar brought together stakeholders from government institutions, archives, libraries, museums, universities, and development partners to strengthen knowledge on the Memory of the World Register, its nomination process, selection criteria, and best practices in documentary heritage preservation.
By promoting collaboration and shared responsibility, Timor-Leste continues to advance its commitment to protecting its documentary heritage and preserving its rich history for generations to come.
