The National Commission of Timor-Leste for UNESCO, together with the Secretariat of State for Arts and Culture, the Secretariat of State for Social Communications, the Secretariat of State for Equality, and the National Institute of Statistics of Timor-Leste, IP, held a national workshop on the theme: Increasing Understanding of UNESCO Convention 2005 through QPR 2024 (Quadrennial Periodic Report), at Ian Martin Hall, INFORDEPE Balide Dili.
The workshop was held in the context of communication and dissemination of the results of Timor-Leste’s QPR in 2024 with the objective of consolidating stakeholders established during the QPR elaboration process and bringing together national team members so that can finalize an action plan for the implementation of the recommendations included in the QPR.
In this workshop, various issues became topics for discussion, such as the key concepts of the 2005 UNESCO Convention and outlining the importance of QPR, sharing multi-stakeholder engagement efforts, and outlining the role of SEAK, SECOMS, and SEI in the implementation of the UNESCO Convention 2005. The Importance of Data and Statistics, Achievements and Challenges in the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Timor-Leste and the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and the ICHLINK Platform.
During the workshop, a documentary about Timor-Leste’s PKI was also opened, which the Timorese produced through the ICHLINKS Video Competition and, at the same time, announced the results for the winners as follows:
First Place: The Rise of Genre Tebe-Tebe: A Song of Ancestors from Timor-Leste by Janio Tilman & Domingos Flaviano Belo Correia Freitas
Second Place: Production Instrument Babadok by Silvano Rodrigues Xavier
Terceiro Lugar: Traditional Knowledge of Uma Lulik and Its Cultural Sites by Grazela Maria Albino
Representatives of government institutions, civil society groups, artists, and cultural professionals in various artistic fields participated in the workshop.
