In 1992, UNESCO established a program for the Memory of the World. The objective of this program is to raise awareness at the global level about the existence and significance of documentary heritage, to facilitate its preservation through the most appropriate techniques, and to promote universal access to this heritage.
The team of the Communication and Information division of the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO (TLNCU), working together with the Ministry of Education (ME), continues to hold a seminar on Promoting and Safeguarding Documentary World Heritage to register in the Memory of the World in the administrative post of Balibo, Bobonaro municipality.
This seminar is to share information with the communities and increase knowledge about the safeguarding of World Heritage Documentary such as documentary photography, audio-visual, text, and others that have existed since the time of our ancestors. We need to preserve things these old and transform them into digitization so that they can be saved from any disaster and will become a memory for new generations to see and access.
Representative Administrator of Balibo administrative post, Mr. Mateus Maia, said this seminar is very important for the communities in Balibo so as to increase knowledge more about the safeguarding of World Documentary Heritage, and it is very important to keep our documentary to register the memory of the world. Thank you to the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO (TLNCU) and the Ministry of Education (ME) for holding this seminar.
The objective of this activity is to share information about the safeguarding of World Heritage Documentary needs to preserve heritage documents such as ancient objects in the administrative post of Balibo and promote access to heritage documents for universal access. This activity was participated in by the community and local authorities.
