The Resource Development Team, Culture Division of the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO (TLNCU), conducted activities to preserve local history (oral tradition) in the Lolein language, which is spoken in some parts of the Remexiu-Aileu Administrative Post and the Cristo-Rei-Dili Administrative Post.
This activity was attended by local authorities and the Lolein-speaking community, speakers, and youth.
The Resource Development Team will continue to work with the community to compile stories into a book as a means of preserving not only the oral tradition but also the language. The speakers and the elderly or traditional leader told the story in Lolen; the young people transcribed it in Lolein and Tetun. Many young people do not speak their language well, but this activity motivates young people to learn and challenges them to write and develop texts in their own language.
