Dili, 18 September 2025, Max Stahl Timor-Leste Audiovisual Center (CAMSTL) held a national seminar on the theme “Safeguarding Audiovisual Heritage through Modern Technology.”
CAMSTL Archives Coordinator, Domingas Cardoso Martins, spoke more about the important process in preservation – from identifying, cleaning, restoring, and cataloging, to finally digitizing more than 8,000 hours of historical archives and Timorese journalism. These files are now stored in a secure digital system, ensuring protection for future generations.
Established in 2003, CAMSTL has become the country’s audiovisual heritage center, dedicated to the research, preservation and production of Timor-Leste’s life history. Its mission is to protect memory and culture, share it with students, society and all Timorese.
During the seminar, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of UNESCO Timor-Leste (TLNCU) also spoke about “Cultural Heritage and the Conservation of Memory of Identity and Life,” to show the role of UNESCO to protect cultural heritage around the world.
UNESCO acts as a guardian of cultural diversity and promotes peace through education, science and culture, as well as helping Timor-Leste strengthen its cultural heritage and gain international recognition.
This important initiative ensures that Timor-Leste’s history, struggles and memories will live on – not just for today, but for generations to come.
